e107 on reddit!

Do you use reddit?
Do you use e107?
Why not use both together?

Do you not know what reddit is? Reddit is a social news network where users can submit information in the form of content or a link to offsite content. Other users can then comment and rate said content as well as share and save content. Given enough upvotes the content can then appear on the front page of reddit.

Subreddits are pages within reddit. Several games (WoW, Guild Wars 2, Warframe, etc) all have subreddits and some of them (Guild Wars 2) pull community input directly from the subreddit and even have developers there interacting with reddit users.

If you create themes, write plugins, modify the core in anyway (hack), or make tutorials about e107, why not post them on the e107 subreddit? Your content will still be hosted wherever you post it, you will still get all the traffic you normally would have gotten, and you will also increase the exposure of said content from the people browsing the subreddit unawares of your existence to begin with. The other immediate plus is all users, new and old, will have a central location to get release news for plugins, themes, and even version releases of e107 itself.

Another amazing benefit is the ability to host AMAs (Ask Me Anything). This can potentially be another outlet for community meetings that could be more accessible to people than IRC, Skype, or a Google+ Hangout since reddit can be viewed in any browser on any device, and apps are out there for Apple and Android devices.

So, what are you waiting for? Get over to the e107 subreddit and start submitting content!

e107 hosting

Well, as some of you may have noticed from the banners around the site - we have partnered with Arvixe - a hosting company here in the USA. Arvixe provides affordable hosting with e107 pre-installed and can have you set up with a new e107-installed site in just 5 minutes for just US$4 a month.

Why Arvixe?
Well, not only are they a big supporter of open-source software but they are an Inc 500 company and are ready to help and serve the e107 community.
I also learned today that their systems are lightening-fast with MYSQL databases running off solid-state drives as of January this year.
Many people appear to be reporting that their sites run much faster after switching to them!

You should also know that by clicking the hosting banner in the footer of this site and choosing them as your hosting provider you will also be supporting e107 Inc. toward the running costs of e107.org.

Well, I'll leave it there, but if you do need hosting, please do keep it in mind.

Cheers

Growth in language packs since v1.0

Since the release of v1.0 of the e107 website content management system I have been appointed as the dedicated Translation Team Leader. We have done very well, and I would like to say 'Thank you!'.

We have established an amazing growth from 12 language packs in the 0.7.x era to 23 language packs in v1.0.0. My personal motivation is: the more translations we have, the bigger possible audience for e107 we might attract! And so far it has been very rewarding for e107.

Also I try to reach as close to 100% perfection as possible for all language packs, in order to assure the quality is also good for users working in foreign languages. That means there is close and intensive communication necessary with the official e107 translators. We discuss missing language items, language interpretations, features, bugs etc. Currently I'm still awaiting final contributions of Latvian and Norwegian, I hope we can also add these to the list on short notice. Of course we want to grow further, so we have set our goals to also have Korean and Japanese as supported languages. We are still looking for official e107 translators for these languages. These and more jobs can be found at the e107.org jobs section.

You can read the latest published news article about our language growth here: http://e107.org/news.php?extend.886

In short, the list of e107 translation packages has doubled and is still growing. We would like to express our gratitude to our loyal members making this all possible, and a special thanks for all the efforts made by our expanding translation team. It's an excellent example of the potential of the community at the e107 website content management system.

EDIT: Norwegian language pack has been posted March 19, 2012.
