e107 has been great my only real bugbear is the lite or dark. Seems to me that it is only lite or dark as no one has made decent transparent graphics. There are many different colours of background that neither are suitable for.

I'm sure that can happen; that there are color conflicts (the tech term is lost to me) on the edges. Right? As a matter of preference, I have gone through the icons to make my own happy set and add a few outside icons to customize it a little for whatever the site is about.

Yea just make your own icon set with transparent icons and set it in your theme, silk icons are always popular [-link-]

I have done, it only came to mind when I was working on another theme today. If the graphics are done properly Str82u there will be no problems. I think the one's currently used must have been made ages ago when stuff like that was a matter of making a certain colour transparent instead of simply saving the transparency.
