I asked a simple question. You mentioned you had no idea for the answer. I didn't need a lecture.

It IS offensive when people come to help, or get help, and get rants and negative posts. Hmmmmm, maybe that's why some take off for a while....

Please ignore any of MY future posts and questions

Heya,

i know it's been a while, but i just wanted to say that i'm liking your chatbox 100x over the one that comes with e107.

I was wondering if you would still be updating this plugin to either v2 or just in general? Would be a loss to see all your hard work gone to waste.

Little point though, have no idea why, but my hosting removed the plugin, because they claim it was too much of a stress on their database.

Do you have any idea how this could/ can happen?

Thanks again!

I had the same thing happen to me while on a shared hosting plan.

Take a look at the ajax refresh rate on the chatbox. You may need to put it to a higher refresh interval to free up some resources.

Didnt know a single database query could generate so much problems.

Thanks for your reply! I've set it to 2 minutes apart, guess that should be more than enough (i hope)

Hi,

Like Liquid_Squelch said,, Make sure your Refresh is high enough. Sounds like you need it higher. It has to do with Javascript running on your system. The more people online at once, the more scripts are going to be hitting the server at that refresh rate,

As far as updating it, I came back a few years ago, but some certain things put me off at the time.

Things around here seem to have changed a lot though. Positive attitudes. Amazing advances. with v2 and just about everything else including communications.

I think the way v2 is going, there may be other/better alternatives to chatbox II soon as well. It's been a LONG time, so there are some things I am working on. I hope to make it easier to use and install, and make it need less hacking. We'll see, I'll try....

Glad you like it. Hope I can help.

If I can just pitch on that. Great to see you like the improvements. The entire e107 team is working hard on improving on basically all areas, be it communication, security handling, attitudes, community input, or the actual product itself (v2).

I would also like to say that v2 will definitely provide a much more solid base for plugins like these. There's far less need (I'd like to say NO need, but we'll have to find that out) to hack your way around the core. It's basically limitless and has become far more flexible.

I am looking forward to seeing new contributions to v2, including yours. Please do let us know when you have questions or issues, or if you would like to suggest core changes. There's Github to submit pull-requests in case you have something ready to go into core.

Again, I'm glad you appreciate all the hard work the entire team as put into this

Just saw you replied.. Your settings will be trial and error. Two minutes might be high if you have only a few visitors on a good host. But...

There are a lot of factors really. It does also depend on the hosting plan you are on and how good the host is. I know some hosts are worse than others and will put limits on you.

If you have a lot of people just having your site open, EACH OF THEM is going to be hitting your host at the setting of the refresh rate at least. That doesn't include if they change pages. If they send chats as well, that is quicker hits that just reading.

Another thing to watch for is if you set it too low, it can actually ban you and your visitors. So, consider any ban settings as well....

Well, it seemed my hosting also didnt like the 5 minute refresh i set it at. They just blocked my account

Site was just up, so minimal visitors, so i wouldnt suggest this host to anyone! Still, switching to a new host, hope it will be fixed soon. Just a warning to all

And no offense to anyone, but imo the current chatbox in e107 doesnt hold up to your chatbox2.

Marco, I had to switch hosts too due to the load placed by CBII. Once I moved to my new host with a sharing plan, I kept the same settings on CBII, and have been fine. I've since moved to a VPS plan with them, and I don't see anything wrong with leaving CBII's refresh rate at 2 minutes. It could be that your shared hosting was close to 'red lining' to begin with, and you just pushed it over the edge.

PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you my current host's information and I'll also send you a coupon for a discounted month.

Thx liduid_squelch, but we went back to my old hoster.

It's a total dickhead but he has put us on his brand new shiny webhosting environment, so we will take it from there.

Completely redid the site, only imported posts and users, and reinstalled the rest. I think moving dbase 5 times broke it somewhere, and gotten worse each time.

Hoping all will be well on v2

Ps, if i can be so bold as to ask for a little addition, if you decide to upgrade it, would be the option for the time inside the chat menu.

Some of my members find it hard to tell time
